Yi-Chun Chen holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University. In 2009, she was awarded the Silver Medal at “The William Byrd Young Artist Competition.” She graduated from the Taipei National University of the Arts and obtained her master’s degree from Oakland University. Chen was first guided by teacher Zhu Weiyi and later studied with professors Wang Yu-Ching, Yang Hui-Chi, and Chen Wei-Ling. After moving to the U.S., she continued her studies under Kristina Belisle-Jones and Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr.
During her time in the U.S., she received a full scholarship and served as a graduate teaching assistant. Upon returning to Taiwan, she became actively involved in various performances, dedicated to both teaching and chamber music. She has served as the principal clarinetist of the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra and is currently an assistant professor at the music department of National Sun Yat-sen University, as well as an instructor in several art talent programs. In 2012, she was invited to serve as the principal clarinetist of the Kaohsiung Wind Orchestra, representing the ensemble in numerous artistic performances and dedicating herself to music education. In 2020, she was awarded a grant from the National Culture and Arts Foundation to hold her solo recital, “40 Continues She—Yi-Chun Chen Clarinet Recital.”
